According to Ayurveda, allergic disorder is caused by impaired digestion. Irregularities in the digestive system are the cause of the hypersensitivity to certain substances, such as a dust and pollen that triggers the allergic attacks. The toxins in the form of partially digested food (ama) are deposited in the lungs and respiratory tract creating an obstruction in breathing and cause wheezing, coughing or sneezing.
Ayurvedic science has answers for allergic disorders. Ayurvedic herbs like haridra(Turmeric), Tulsi ( Holy Basil) and Adulasa (Vasaka) are found to be very effective in treating such disorders. The anti-inflammatory properties of Haridra can effectively combat allergic disorders. Tulsi is also found to effective in managing respiratory disorders. In chronic conditions, detoxification through Panchkarma therapies like Vaman and Virechan is very effective.
